The Justice Precinct is a series of three buildings (Administration and Courts) in the heart of Parramatta and is the first New South Wales Government Building to have achieved the 5 Star Green Star office design rating.
Green Star is a comprehensive, national, voluntary environmental rating scheme that evaluates the environmental design and achievements of buildings. A 5 Star Green Star Certified Rating signifies a project has achieved 'Australian Excellence.'
The Justice Building has also received a Green Business Council of Australia (GBCA) ranking for the energy rating of the building. In line with GBCA standards, the building and interior incorporated energy-efficient measures such as rainwater harvesting, solar hot water, low-energy consumption light fittings, solar shading and the use of chilled beam cooling technology.
The building features contemporary office design, including a 10-storey light-filled atrium. It also reflects the important social and functional significance of the judicial system.
Lafarge Plasterboard was selected by Cubic Interiors to provide all the plasterboard for construction because of their ability to meet the stringent sustainability requirements set out by Cubic Interior’s environmental consultants. These requirements included locally manufactured products to reduce transport costs, products which meet the required percentage of recycled content and the current and future sustainability practices of Lafarge Plasterboard.
As part of the Lafarge Group, which has just received an international rating for the third year running as one of the top 100 most sustainable corporation in the world, the partnership between Lafarge Plasterboard and Cubic Interiors is a fitting one.
Cubic Interiors Managing Director, Robert Migliorino, says Cubic Interiors has a number of 5 Star Green Star projects under its belt and says Australians are way ahead of other building markets in terms of sustainability.
“It’s exciting to be part of a process that has a lot of thought behind its construction to ensure sustainability requirements are achieved,” Robert says. “Almost 80,000 square metres of Lafarge Plasterboard was used in this project. I am one of the original Lafarge Plasterboard customers. I believe they provide the best product on the market and provide a solution for every scenario, whether it be acoustic, fire or aesthetic.”
