"We needed an interior lining which could meet the acoustic specification and at the same time provide a distinctive finish. AcoustiControl had neat square perforations, which made following the stepped profile of the theatre quite simple. We were pleased with the effect achieved, with the final painted finish." - John Bricher, Laser Linings
The Lyell McEwin Health Service redevelopment project, currently being designed by Cheesman Architects, includes new facilities for emergency, intensive care, teaching and medical imaging and additions for same day surgical and medical patients. Although not due for completion until 2005, the redevelopment has been planned so that areas can be opened as soon as each stage has been finished. Part of Stage 3 development incorporated the addition of hi-tech teaching facilities. Lyell McEwin's affiliation with the University of Adelaide has always played an important part in the provision of medical care and the new 200 seat lecture theatre is a welcome addition for the health service and medical students.
Achieving the correct sound absorption and reflection was essential for such a teaching and learning environment but the architect and project manager were also conscious of the need to provide an aesthetic finish to the theatre. AcoustiControl was selected for installation on the theatre walls for this purpose. Its high Noise Reduction Coefficient of 0.73 and neat perforations were ideal for a smooth painted finish. As installation was as trouble free as general plasterboard the overall result was both economical and very polished. The lecture theatre has been designed with flexibility, acoustic and aesthetic comfort with the aim of making this a teaching and arts performance facility for the entire community in the area.
