User consultation was an important part of the process for the redesign and redevelopment of Sutherland Hospital. With an emphasis on creating a "healthy environment", material and colour finishes have been effectively incorporated into the design of wards, pre-operative units, community mental health facilities, aged care services, rehabilitation services and health / outpatient clinics. In such a busy setting, selecting durable and low maintenance materials is essential but it is also important that the finished look meets the high standards and expectations of the client. Areas such as corridors and wards required high impact wall linings as did the Aged Care wards and the Rehabilitation Centre.
Lafarge Plasterboard was able to assist the project developers by providing 13,000m2 of GIB Toughline® for the four storey main hospital areas. Able to meet FRL requirements when incorporated into a system this resulted in a significant cost saving for the client and reduced installation time. The design incorporates a state of the art cafè and shopping areas. Noise control and sound absorption were key concerns for Peddle Thorp and Walker. AcoustiControl was specified for lining the ceiling. This ensures that noise is contained within these areas and a comfortable sound level is achieved by reducing reverberation.
